THE LAST DROP
SIGNATURE CREATION
EXTRA AÑEJO TEQUILA

“This Extra Añejo Tequila is a connoisseur’s drink; one that you may savour quietly on your own, and with carefully chosen companions who will appreciate its unique character.”

A TRUE LABOUR OF LOVE, OVER TEN YEARS IN THE MAKING, The Last Drop is absolutely delighted to have this exquisite Extra Añejo Tequila join our collection of releases. With it, our fourth Signature Creation, we also bring into the fold our newest member of The Last Drop Assembly, Carmen Villarreal.

Carmen has been at the forefront of the tequila industry since 1997, when she assumed the role of CEO at Casa San Matías, becoming the first woman to lead a tequila distillery. Since taking the helm, she has led the company from strength to strength establishing their own brands, while still making time for her own passion project: experimenting with tequilas aged in European casks.

The result of this longstanding dedication to quality and innovation is The Last Drop’s Release No. 40, a deliciously unctuous Extra Añejo Tequila comprised of just three casks; two aged for ten years in ex-bourbon barrels, and one aged for seven years in a Port pipe.

Release Size: 435 Bottles (worldwide)

Format: Individually numbered bottles (700ml + 50ml minature) presented in our ravishing new packaging.

TASTING NOTES BY CARMEN VILLARREAL, MASTER BLENDER, CASA SAN MATÍAS

APPEARANCE: A captivating golden amber hue with subtle coppery-pink reflections, the result of 10 years of maturation in ex-bourbon and Port casks.

NOSE: The bouquet opens with roasted almonds and walnuts, interwoven with delicate hints of oak spice and unctuous tropical pineapple. Vanilla and baking spices emerge in perfect harmony, while floral undertones of orange blossom honey and jasmine bring a fresh and elegant dimension.

Fig. 2 – Cooked Agave

PALATE: From the first sip, a symphony of flavours unfolds – creamy dulce de leche and cooked agave open, followed by plums, dates and a hint of green jalapeño skin. A warming cinnamon and clove tingle emerges, underpinned by floral sweetness and toasted oak.
The finish is balanced and complex, with dark chocolate and orange blossom honey rounding off this exceptional spirit.

CONCLUSIONS: This tequila encapsulates the essence of time and the land; a masterful balance between the spiced oak notes, the richness of dried fruits, and the freshness of the native agave plant. Each element is in perfect equilibrium, creating a sensory experience that celebrates the time-honoured art of tequila.
